KENYA GARRETT-BURNETT

Kenya Garrett-Burnett is the Legal Director of HIV/AIDS Legal Services at Legal Council for Health Justice. In this role, she manages a talented group of attorneys and legal advocates who fight for the rights of people impacted with HIV/AIDS. She also leads efforts to expand medical legal partnerships, focusing on communities on the south side of Chicago and south suburbs. Kenya is dedicated to building community relationships and has established the Community Council, bringing together clients, community members, and stakeholders for collaborative policy, advocacy, and organizing.

 

Kenya, worked for over 8 years at Legal Aid Chicago as a senior staff attorney, specializing in public benefits, family law, and legal issues impacting individuals living with HIV/AIDS. She holds a Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law and an undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

 

With a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, Kenya co-facilitates the Illinois Legal Aid Racial Justice and Diversity Collaborative, addressing racial justice and diversity in the Illinois legal aid community. She previously served as the co-chair of the Illinois Legal Aid Diversity and Inclusion Working Group.

 

Outside Legal Council, Kenya serves as the Co-Chairperson of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago Service Providers Council Executive Committee and Co-Chairperson of Medical Legal Partnership Illinois. Her impactful contributions extend beyond the legal community, creating positive change for those she serves.
